Electus 2011

Seven grape varieties were used for this complex wine made from superbly matured grapes that developed during a very hot summer. It is a wine with great potential, lusciously long in mouth and with beautiful depth. The aromas are a mix of liquorice, black fruit and dates, woven through refined tannins. It is very persistent with a distinguished appeal, very seductive. But it has only begun to show all its virtues.

Cornalin, Humagne Rouge, Diolinoir, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc

Winemaking process

Each grape is processed separately. Long cold-soaking prior to the spontaneous fermentation that occurs with the indigenous yeast. Malolactic fermentation occurs under the pomace cap. The blend is created and put in barrels for ageing.

Ageing & Maturation

ELECTUS is aged during 18 months in new French oak barrels. It also benefits from almost one year of maturation in the bottle

Soils

Valais offers a mosaic of different terroirs. The selected parcels are composed of several soils such as schist, granit, limestone and marl.

Viticulture

Depending on the vines and the grapes, the vine is trained in simple or double guyot or in cordon pruning. After a meticulous selection, the grapes are hand harvested in small boxes to preserve the quality of each crop.

Alcohol

Electus 2010

The first vintage of ELECTUS was the  2010, a year that was a great vintage in Valais. This rich and fruity wine, powerful yet contained thanks to its mature tannins, is ample evidence of this. Dominant and full aromas of black currant, chocolate, cedar and tobacco cover the palate. Decanted an hour before serving, it is perfect with warm meats, game and cheese. The grapes were harvested in mid-October; the wine was matured in barrels for 18 months before bottling. Is was then aged for another year and a half.

From Mund to the World

The ELECTUS label was inspired by a very old tapestry that hangs in the chapel of Mund, a village in upper Valais. It displays flowers, fruit, a bird to distribute seeds, and two interwoven letter, V and M, the initials of Valais Mundi, but also letters representing Vin and Montagne. The unusual and creative label illustrates both the attachment to tradition that is dear to Valais growers and their partnership with nature, whose benefits they reap.
